Complications

Nephrotic syndrome is associated with kidney failure. The disease that causes NS can damage the glomeruli and interfere with their ability to clean the blood. Kidney failure can happen gradually or suddenly. At this stage sufferers are likely to need kidney dialysis and ultimately a transplant.

Some patients develop blood that abnormally over clots. This means that they are at risk for developing a blood clot in the legs or in the renal veins that transport blood from the kidney. Blood thinners may be required to prevent this complication.
