About Us
The Nephrotic Syndrome Trust, or NeST, was set up in 2005 by trustee David Yearsley whose son James sufferers from the disease. Nephrotic Syndrome affects around 10,000 people in the UK. Doctors do not fully understand the cause and there is currently no known cure. But a dedicated team at the specialist Kidney Unit at Bristol Children's hospital is researching the disorder in hope of finding a cure.
This research work is funded solely by charitable donations and grants and has to proceed on a project-by-project basis. It was for this reason that a dedicated charity has been set up to raise money to fund this vital research.
The Trust aims to:
Raise awareness of the disease
Raise funds for research to find a cure
Offer a website resource and forum for sufferers and their carers who often feel isolated
NeST is supported by the world-renowned rugby player Jonah Lomu, himself a sufferer of NS who has agreed to be an Ambassador for the charity.
We look forward to welcoming you to the Trust, for any questions you may have, please visit our Our NSTrust Community forum which is now up and running. Here you can read and post messages relating to Nephrotic Syndrome and NeST, hopefully here you will find answers to most of your questions, or raise the question yourself.
